Matsumoto Castle with the JR Pass
Matsumoto Castle is one of only five original castles designated a National Treasure of Japan. The JR Pass covers the limited express Azusa from Shinjuku, making it a comfortable day trip or overnight from Tokyo.

- Open 08:30 to 17:00, last entry 16:30.
- Entry 700 yen for adults, 300 yen children.
- Black exterior earns it the nickname Crow Castle.
- Steep wooden stairs inside the keep, socks required.
