Overnight travel
The Sunrise Seto and Sunrise Izumo are Japan's only regular overnight sleeper trains. The JR Pass covers the base fare and limited express fare, leaving only the sleeper berth supplement to pay.
Berths open exactly one month before departure at 10:00 Japan time. Demand is high, so go straight to a JR midori-no-madoguchi ticket office on the morning reservations open. Carpet Nobinobi spaces are easier to get on weekdays.
