    Osaka to Kyoto by train: fastest and cheapest options

    Kyoto is just 15 minutes from Osaka by shinkansen or 30 minutes by JR Special Rapid. Here are all the options and how to pick the right one.

    Both the shinkansen and the JR Special Rapid are free with the Japan Rail Pass. Most travellers pick the Special Rapid because Osaka station is more central than Shin Osaka.
