    • Ryukyu sites in Okinawa: not on the JR network.

    Suggested 10 day UNESCO route

    Tokyo to Nikko, back to Tokyo, then shinkansen to Kyoto. Use Kyoto as a base for Nara and Himeji day trips. Continue to Hiroshima for Miyajima, then return to Tokyo. A 7 day JR Pass covers the core, a 14 day pass adds Kanazawa and Takayama.
