Narita Airport is the most common landing point for travellers with a Japan Rail Pass. Here is how to swap your exchange voucher and catch the Narita Express into Tokyo on day one.
Hand over your voucher and passport. Choose the start date, which can be today or up to 30 days in the future. Once activated, ask staff to reserve a Narita Express seat to Tokyo, Shinagawa or Shinjuku. Both are free with the pass.
The last Narita Express leaves around 21:44. After that, take the Keisei line or the airport bus, then start using the JR Pass the next morning. The activation date does not need to be today.
