    • Hakata to Kagoshima Chuo: 1 hour 20 minutes on Mizuho or Sakura.
    • Osaka to Kagoshima Chuo: about 4 hours via Hakata.
    • Note: Mizuho requires the JR Pass holders to ride Sakura or Tsubame on this line for full coverage.

    What to see

    Take the short ferry to Sakurajima for lava walks and lookouts. Visit Sengan en garden with views of the volcano, and stroll Tenmonkan for Kagoshima ramen and shirokuma shaved ice.
