    What happens to your JR Pass during weather delays

    Japan's rail network is one of the most reliable in the world, but typhoons, heavy snow and earthquakes do cause cancellations. Here is how your JR Pass handles disruption.

    If trains are cancelled

    • Reserved seat fees are refunded at any JR ticket office.
    • Your JR Pass validity is not extended for missed days.

    • Snow: most common on Hokuriku and Tohoku lines, December to March.
    • Typhoon: June to October, mainly affects Kyushu and Tokaido lines.
