The Japan Rail Pass offers excellent value for families traveling in Japan. Children between 6 and 11 years receive a 50 percent discount on the JR Pass price, making long-distance travel far more affordable. Children under 6 years of age can ride for free on JR trains when sharing a seat with an adult and do not need their own pass. From the age of 12, travelers are classified as adults and require a standard JR Pass.

Who can use the JR Pass?
Available to foreign tourists visiting Japan with a "Temporary Visitor" visa stamp. Japanese citizens living abroad may also be eligible.
