- Going from Tokyo to Kyoto or Osaka: pick the right side (seats D or E).
- Going from Kyoto or Osaka to Tokyo: pick the left side, also seats D or E.

Best shinkansen seat for Mount Fuji views
The Tokaido shinkansen passes close to Mount Fuji between Tokyo and Nagoya. With the right seat and a bit of luck on the weather, you get a clear view for several minutes.

When you see Fuji
The clearest view is between Mishima and Shin Fuji stations, around 40 minutes after leaving Tokyo and 1 hour 50 minutes after leaving Shin Osaka. The view lasts about 5 minutes if the sky is clear.

- Mornings in winter are clearest, especially December to February.
- Sunset can give a pink glow on the snow.
- Summer often brings cloud cover, mid afternoon is worst.
