Who can use the JR Pass?
Eligible for JR Pass
- Non-Japanese passport holders under the entry status of "Temporary Visitor".
- Japanese citizens who have lived abroad for more than 10 consecutive years with a certificate from their local embassy.
Not eligible
- You enter on a student visa.
- You enter on a work visa.
- You are a Japanese citizen and have lived abroad for less than 10 years.
- You enter Japan on any other visa than "Temporary Visitor".
Activate within 90 days
The JR Pass must be activated within 90 days from the order date. We recommend ordering about 4 weeks before departure.
Japanese citizens
Japanese citizens must obtain a certificate from the Japanese Embassy before purchasing. All citizens over 12 need their own certificate.
