Travelling to Tsukuba-Tokyo-Nagoya

Hi,

I am planning to travel to Tsukuba-Tokyo-Nagoya within 14 days in October. Does JR pass cover this areas? Which airport has train travel time fastest to Tsukuba, Haneda airport or Narita airport? Thank you

Hi Mohamad, the Japan Rail Pass will cover most of your trip, apart from the Tsukuba Express Semi-Rapid line to Tusukuba which is owend by TX, and individual company. I’ll take you through some route alternatives. There are no direct trains from the Airport to Tsukuba, but you can use any of the below routes. The Tsukuba Express Rapid is 1.200 JPY (Around 10 USD)

From Narita Airport:
Keisei Narita Aiport Line to Higashi-Matsudo (32 minutes) and change to the JR Musashino Line to Minami-Nagareyama (9 minutes) and from there use the Tsukuba Express Semi-Rapid line to Tusukuba. The entire travel time from the Aiprot to Tsukuba is 1h 27m and takes 2 changes along the way.

From Haneda Airport:
Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho (18 minutes) and change to the JR keihintohoku Line-Negishi Line ti Akihabara (8 minutes) and from ther echange to the Tsukuba Express Rapid to Tsukuba (45 mintues) A total 1 h 34 minutes from Haneda Aiport including 6 minutes walking at the aiport.

Tusukuba to Tokyo:
Tsukuba Express Rapid to Akihabara and change to the JR Keihintohoku line to Tokyo Station. Total of 1 change and 58 ride time. However, Akihabara is a central part of Tokyo, so if you stay in that area – you may not need any changes.

Tokyo to Nagoya:
You may use the Hikari Shinkansen without any chages, direct from Tokyo to Nagoya. The ride is a total of 1h 41m and is included in the pass.

In conclusion, all rides you intend to do and all changes are included except for the train to Tsukuba, which is not run by JR and require a fee to use the TX railway line. If you intend to do any other stops during your stay to major or tourist popular areas, they will most likely be by Shinkansen which is run by JR and included in the pass. Hope it was of help and please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help! 😊

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for your kind & detailed explanation. Just wonder, if I buy a 14 day pass, does it mean the pass valid for 14 consecutive days only or valid after 14 days of usage? (Non consecutive). Thanks again.

No problem 😊
It’s for 14 consecutive day, where activation date counts as day 1, even if activated late. JR counts in days and not hours.
