Johan & his family

What did they do in Japan?

Johan traveled to Japan with his two children in June 2024, spending two weeks in the country. They used Tokyo and Kyoto as their base cities, taking advantage of the Japan Rail Pass instead of frequently checking in and out of hotels in different cities.

Their journey began in Tokyo, where they immersed themselves in the busy citylife, exploring areas like Ginza, Shibuya, Asakusa, and Shinjuku, along with plenty of other exciting activities. After experiencing Tokyo, they headed south to Kyoto for a change of pace, focusing on nature and temples, which were high on their priority list before the trip. After settling into Kyoto for a few days, they continued their trip to one of their other highlights, which was Osaka, where they visited Universal Studios and Super Nintendo World USJ, both top attractions on their wishlist. They also spent a day in Nara, the famed temple city, where they visited Nara Park, home to 1,200 free-roaming deer. The deer, accustomed to bowing in exchange for crackers sold in the park, made for a truly unique and delightful experience that the family thoroughly enjoyed.

After a week in the southern part of Japan, they returned back to Tokyo to finish their trip. They spent their final days in Ikebukuro, exploring spots like K-Books, the Animate store and the Mega Pokémon Center in Sunshine City. They also took a short trip to a beach not far from Tokyo—a less common choice for travelers to the mainland but one that added a special touch to their adventure. It gave them the opportunity to say they had swum in Japan before heading home, a memory they cherished and told us to highly recommend to others.
