The pass cannot be used at automatic ticket gates. Show your pass at the manned gate when entering and exiting platforms.
Pass validity is counted in days from midnight to midnight, not 24-hour periods. The first day of use counts as a full day regardless of start time.

The Hokkaido Rail Pass is exclusively available to visitors entering Japan on a Temporary Visitor visa for tourism purposes.
