Can I buy tickets instead of 7 day pass?

1. For to and fro, from Tokyo to Kyoto, on 1st and 4th day of month only, do I still need a JR Pass? Can I buy tickets at the station office?

2. Can JR pass be used for metro trains in Tokyo?

3. My flight to Japan is two weeks away. Can you ship the JR Voucher from Sweden to India within this period?

4. Where can I find trains with departure times? Do I need to book trains in advance?

Hi Anurvi,

A 7 days JR Pass is the same cost as individual tickets Tokyo > Kyoto > Tokyo. So by getting a Japan Rail Pass, the rest of your trips are basically “free”. But individual tickets can be bought at your JR disk or Shinkansen ticket machines across the JR stations.

Your Japan Rail Pass is valid on JR’s lines in Tokyo, but not the one run as “Metro”, it’s not owned by JR. JR’s lines dow however make up most major parts of the city and takes you to popular areas for free with a JR Pass, such as: Ueno, Tokyo Station, Akihabara, Shinjuku, Shibuya and much more. The most used and popular loop line is JR Yamanote Line. There is also JR Chuo Line, JR Keihin-Tohoku Line, Saikyo, Shonan-Shinjuku, and Sobu lines run by JR in and around the city. Read more about train types in Toyko, Kyoto and the rest of Japan here: https://getjrpass.com/train-types/

We ship out your Japan Rail Pass the same, or next day as latest with UPS Express depending on when the order is placed. Your pass will reach you in time if purchased in the beginning of this upcomming week, yes.

As for the timetables and routes, Navitime has a great tool that lets you check “Japan Rail Pass” and only show routes covered by the JR Pass from A to B. We personaly use it a lot when we are in Japan. Read more about it here: https://getjrpass.com/tools/

Hope it was of help and please let me know if there’s anything else we can do to help. Hope you have a wonderful stay in Japan! 🙂

With kind regards, Jonathan H.

Thnak you so much for the information, Mr. Jonathan. I wasn’t expecting such a swift response to my query. Your help is appreciated.

I have one more question, what is the amount that will be charged if the voucher is not used? Is it 15 per cent? Will I have to send the voucher back to Sweden myself?

Sorry to bother you again.

I’m happy to help! 😊
JR has in their policy that the pass has to be returned physically, but the cheapest possible shipping is accepted as long as it can be tracked. So it usually don’t come with much cost. Issued passes in the system is charged 15% which we forward to the customer. If the pas hass been activated in Japan, it can not be refunded.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help! ⛩️
