With your Japan Rail Pass (without any upgrade etc) you can take the Hikari Shinkanen to Shin-Osaka and chnge to Sakura Shinkansen which will take you all the way to Shin-Yamaguchi station. It’s all included in the JR Pass of yours.

You can upgrad to use the Nozomi if you prefer – but doubt it’s worth the time difference.
