Tokyo to Osaka in 7 days

Perfect with a Japan Rail Pass

Start in Tokyo and finish in Osaka

This route will guide you from Tokyo to Osaka, with a stop in Hakone to visit mount Fuji, later to Kyoto for a couple of days to visit the famous Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine, Arashiyama bamboo forest and so much more. You will later header on towards Hiroshima and Miyajima for a night to take in the history and it’s past. Once done in Hiroshima, you’ll head towads Osaka for a day to explore the white Osaka Castle as well as the popular shopping and food street Dotonbori. Your journey will either end with a flight home from here or a trip with the Shinkansen back to Tokyo with your Japan Rail Pass, depending on where your flight departures.

Day 1: Tokyo

Arrive in Tokyo and check-in to your hotel.

Visit the famous Tsukiji Fish Market for a taste of fresh sushi.

Head to Asakusa to visit Sensoji Temple, one of Tokyo’s oldest temples.

Take a stroll through Ueno Park and visit the Tokyo National Museum.

Day 2: Tokyo

Take a trip to the iconic Tokyo Tower for a panoramic view of the city.

Visit the lively Shibuya Crossing and the famous Hachiko statue.

Explore Harajuku and the trendy Takeshita Street, filled with fashion boutiques and cafes.

In the evening, experience the excitement of Tokyo’s nightlife in Shinjuku.

Day 3: Hakone

Take the bus or train to Hakone.

Visit the Hakone Open-Air Museum, which features a collection of contemporary sculptures and art.

Take a scenic cruise on Lake Ashi and enjoy views of Mt. Fuji.

Relax in an onsen (hot spring) and unwind from the day’s activities.

Day 4: Kyoto

Take the Hikari Shinkansen from Odawara to Kyoto with your JR Pass.

Visit the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine and hike through the thousands of torii gates.

Visit the historic Kiyomizu-dera Temple and enjoy the view of Kyoto from the temple’s balcony.

Explore the charming Gion district and maybe spot a geisha or maiko.

Day 5: Kyoto

Visit the stunning Arashiyama bamboo grove.

Visit the Kinkaku-ji Temple, also known as the Golden Pavilion.

Explore the Philosopher’s Path and the Nanzen-ji Temple.

Day 6: Hiroshima and Miyajima

Take the Hikari & Sakura Shinkansen from Kyoto to Hiroshima with help of your Japan Rail Pass. (Or direct-train using Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima)

Visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum.

Take a ferry to Miyajima and visit the famous Itsukushima Shrine and the floating torii gate. This island has a lot of free walking deers, similar to Nara Park.

Stay overnight in Hiroshima or Miyajima.

Day 7: Osaka

Use the Sakura Shinkasen from Hiroshima to Shin-Osaka station with your Japan Rail Pass.

Visit the Osaka Castle, a symbol of Osaka’s rich history.

Explore the colorful Dotonbori district and try some of Osaka’s famous street food.

Visit the Kaiyukan Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world.
